Old Irish tradition.
The over dependence on land-based food sources often lead to deficiencies in micronutrients and trace elements. In addition, Seaweed & algae contain the full spectrum of organic (photo-synthetic) vitamins, all minerals and 72 natural ionic sea trace minerals, lipids, plant sterols, amino acids. Omega 3’s and 6’s, anti-oxidants, growth hormones, poly-phenols i.e. The high density of nutrients found in algae is extremely important for many reasons. Perhaps the most important is that these nutrients maintain/replace human cell membranes in structure and function. This is vital for cell detoxification, and for the overall metabolism in general. Now more than ever, supplementation is crucial for health, because many minerals have practical been depleted from our soils, and other nutrients are destroyed in the processing & cooking of almost all the foods we eat. Follow the old and proven lead as used by the old Irish population.
The mothers would explain two her children: oarweed or now better known as Kelp/Kombu added to the bottom of a pot of rice, vegetables, beans , rice or potatoes would help them keep from sticking; added to a pot, the kombu helps to cook faster saving wood and peat and renders them more digestible, adding additional mineral content and other nutrients. Negatively charged minerals have been shown to increase the transport and bioavailability of other foods and supplements. These accumulated minerals in seaweed can be loosely considered as primary metabolites. The accumulated minerals, are concentrated against the osmotic gradient to cause a much higher concentration of each mineral inside the body cells and intercellular spaces compared to the surrounding fluid (blood plasma).
Enhance the flavour of many dishes/food. Known for its ability to absorb and neutralise harmful substances in food, water and body. Now we known that these old people had it right; There is no family of foods more protective against radiation and environmental pollutants than sea vegetables. The Irish view shared by the Japanese. Most of the world population lives in Cities. These cities polluted places with many toxic substances present in the living environment, the air they breath, dust, toxic particles which are the result of sun and contaminants like sulphur.
Our food contaminated due to polluted water, the use of pesticides and weed killers, grow enhancing substances, fertiliser needed to get products growing. Just like the old Irish folk did, it might be wise to add a small piece of seaweed at the bottom of the pot when cooking a meal and remove it before serving the dinner. Go safe! There are demographic studies which show that people who regularly incorporate edible seaweed’s into their diets have fewer problems from mineral depletion and live longer than other peoples. ( Japan)
Now it is scientific proven that: Sea vegetation contains compounds which bind with and remove toxins from water, the tissues of animals and humans. Many of them using seaweed for this purpose already some time. To compensate for using polluted food, compensate for air, water, land and products. This removal of toxins from there bodies becoming more and more and more important. |

Why seaweed?
We are now faced with so many health challenges, physically.
